Getting Involved
The Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics exists and succeeds because of our open, inclusive, and collegial work environment and our culture of collaboration and participation with academic researchers, medical professionals, industrial partners, government institutions, nonprofit organizations and most importantly our communities. “The interaction between people has been profound,” says Dr. Hayden. “We’ve influenced each other and with that has come improved success.”
A Culture of Excellence
Our culture is rooted in a strong set of values. We are driven by our passion for excellence in genetic research and the translation of basic knowledge into new therapies. CMMT’s excellence is reflected by the high quality and productivity of our faculty and trainees; our commitment to providing mentorship and support to each other; our success in obtaining research funding and research awards; an organization and administrative infrastructure that benefit everyone; and our dedication to community outreach. It is a highly energetic culture of excellence, achievement and collegiality, and we make sure to have fun and lots of laughter along the way.
Sharing is our Secret for Excellence
We strive to do research differently. First, we make a conscious effort to share our facilities and resources within the Centre and with the larger research community. It is not uncommon for lab members to email their colleagues in other labs to ask if they can borrow a specific reagent or equipment. Our core facilities not only provide service to our own researchers, but also serve researchers at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHRI), industry and others within the community. At CMMT the “silos” of costly, underused resources that are often present in academia are minimized. Our culture of sharing and collaboration allows us to pursue ideas in an unconstrained and supportive research environment.
