Core Facilities

OVERVIEW

Essential to the vision of CMMT is the creation, maintenance, and constant enhancement of an outstanding research environment. CMMT achieves these goals by operating on the principle of shared access and collaborative use of all equipment and resources, the establishment of core service facilities, and the provision of a core of experienced administrators to manage operations, human resources, finances, communications, and IT services.

Over the past five years, CMMT has significantly expanded the core facilities and services that it operates for the research community at CMMT, CFRI, UBC and beyond. These changes included the:

  • Establishment of the Genotyping and Gene Expression Core Facilities in January of 2006;
  • Completion of the Laboratory for Functional Genomics in June of 2005; and
  • Mouse Animal Production Services (MAPS) updated to emphasize all aspects of transgenesis via Embryonic Stem Cells (ESC) 2010.

CMMT’s shared equipment resources are maintained, upgraded, and expanded as required, to meet the constantly evolving demands of our research environment.

OUR FACILITIES

Bioanalyzer
This core facility provides researchers at CMMT, CFRI and within the Greater Vancouver community access to the state-of-the-art microfluidics-based functionality of the Bioanalyzer from Agilent Technologies.

Computing
CMMT information technology group provides network and server support for laboratory computing and runs the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)-funded Gene Regulation Bioinformatics Laboratory (GRBL).

Genotyping
The CMMT Genotyping and Gene Expression Core Facility was established to provide high-throughput genotyping and gene expression profiling services to researchers at CMMT and the research community at large.

LETAM-HD
The Laboratory for Experimental Therapeutics in Animal Models of Human Disease is dedicated to high-throughput screening of novel therapeutics in transgenic mice.

Mouse Behaviour
The Suite for the Analysis of Mouse Behaviour provides access to a wide array of systems for the phenotypic characterization of large numbers of transgenic mice using standardized behavioural protocols.

Sequencing
This facility provides DNA sequencing services to investigators at CMMT and the research community at large. It is equipped with the ABI Prism 3130xl Genetic Analyzer, a 16-cappillary fluorescence-based DNA analysis system.

Shared Resources
The CMMT encourages a collaborative approach to research through its equipment sharing program. At CMMT, resources ranging from microscopes to imaging systems and spectrophotometers are shared among labs.

MAPS and Mouse Core
CMMT MAPS (Mouse Animal Production Service) and Mouse Core Facility provide many services including the generation of chimeras via ESC microinjection, and an in-house cryopreservation program, all within a strict barrier facility.
