One of the many services that MAPS provides is generating custom mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) and embryonic stem cells (ESCs) from your desired strain.
MAPS is a start-to-finish service, helping with importation of mice, and undertaking all mouse and tissue culture work. Depending on your project needs, we can produce otherwise identical lines of MEFs or ESCs with different genotypes (e.g. wild type, heterozygous, homozygous).
ESCs can be an incredibly useful in vitro tool. For example, having stem cells made from your own transgenic strain, on your genetic background, may be ideal for optimizing CRISPR/Cas9 reactions. MEFs are also a cost effective way to run many biochemical experiments. Overall, using MEFs and ESCs may reduce the use of mice, in keeping with the three R’s of animal research.
